Agricultural Chemical Use Database (USDA/NASS)

http://www.pestmanagement.info/nass/

This site provides interactive access to data from NASS, as part of a cooperative effort among USDA, the USDA Regional Pest Management Centers and the NSF Center for Integrated Pest Management (CIPM). All data available have been previously published by NASS and have been consolidated at the state level. Commodity acreages and active ingredient agricultural chemical use (% acres treated, ai/acre/treatment, average number of treatments, ai/acre, total ai used) data are available. All data can be searched by commodity, year, state and active ingredient. For more details on methodology, please see NASS website. Search results can be obtained in web format and as downloadable Excel files. For each individual active ingredient, commodity, year and statistic, dynamic U.S. maps of each use statistic can be generated. Agricultural chemical usage statistic data can also be seen in a graphical format. Currently, this site contains the data from 1990 to 2001. We will continue to update the database annually.

http://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/saf-sec-sur/3/erg-gmu/erg/ergmenu.as...

It is primarily a guide to aid first responders in quickly identifying the specific or generic hazards of the material(s) involved in the incident, and protecting themselves and the general public during the initial response phase of the incident. For the purposes of the guidebook, the "initial response phase" is that period following arrival at the scene of an incident during which the presence and/or identification of dangerous goods is confirmed, protective actions and area securement are initiated, and assistance of qualified personnel is requested. It is not intended to provide information on the physical or chemical properties of dangerous goods.

Agricultural Buffers - City of Brentwood, California

http://www.ci.brentwood.ca.us/boards/aarg/enterprise/agricul...

Both the City of Brentwood and Contra Costa County (California, USA) have provisions in their general plans and other planning documents that support the implementation of agricultural buffers. While the City does not have a formal standard that governs the design or size of agricultural buffers, in practice, the buffers that have been implemented have ranged from 100 to 300 feet. The County’s practices on buffers have been primarily implemented by the County Agricultural Commissioner in the form of spray restrictions on agricultural parcels. These restrictions require no spraying in an area on selected agricultural parcel that can range from 100 to 500 feet from the edge of the property. The actual width is based on the specific chemical applied, the prevailing wind conditions and the presence of sensitive adjacent land uses (such as schools). In cases in which a non-restricted chemical is being applied, a cooperative agreement is often developed with the grower to adapt spraying schedules and notify neighbors to minimize impacts on surrounding areas.

EPA Endangered Species Protection Program

http://www.epa.gov/oppfead1/endanger/

Although the Office of Pesticide Programs has included endangered species considerations in its risk assessments for many years, the ESPP, as an entity, started in 1988. It is largely voluntary at the present time and relies on cooperation between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), EPA Regions, States, and pesticide users. The limitations on pesticide use on this site are not law at this time, but are being provided now for your use in voluntarily protecting endangered species from harm due to pesticide use. We encourage you to use this information. We also welcome your comments. The Endangered Species Act is intended to protect and promote the recovery of animals and plants that are in danger of becoming extinct due to the activities of people. Under the Act, EPA must ensure that use of pesticides it registers will not result in harm to the species listed as endangered or threatened by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, or to habitat critical to those species' survival. To implement the ESPP, labels of certain pesticides will direct users to bulletins with information similar to what appears here. This program will protect endangered and threatened species from harm due to pesticide use.

Buffers - planning for sustainable agriculture | NSW Department of Primary Industries

http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/search?q=buffer+agricultural

The purpose of a buffer is to separate conflicting land use activities and thereby lessen the potential impact of one activity or series of activities on an adjoining activity or land user. In land use planning, "activities" are typically land uses of one form or another and the manner in which those land uses are undertaken. Agriculture is a series of industries and activities that can be in conflict with adjoining land uses: * the common ‘clash’ between residential use and agriculture; * conflict between agricultural enterprises (e.g. ‘organic’ versus ‘non-organic’); * conflict between agriculture and sensitive environments such as waterways, native habitats, wetlands, schools and public places.
